Which adhesive works best for bonding cardboard to cardboard?

For general cardboard bonding, hot melt glue sticks are nearly the optimal choice. No clamping is required, and they cure within seconds, unlike PVA glue or contact adhesives which demand extended drying or curing time. OGD-701 is specially formulated for paper, cardstock and cardboard. If long-term structural strength takes priority over speed, polyvinyl acetate wood glue or contact adhesive delivers higher bonding strength than hot melt adhesives; however, they require sufficient time and pressure for full curing.

Is hot melt adhesive strong enough for cardboard bonding?

Yes. For the vast majority of cardboard applications, including model making, packaging, POS display stands and carton sealing, properly selected hot melt adhesive (such as OGD-701) creates bonds stronger than the cardboard itself. Fiber tearing will occur before adhesive joint failure. Nevertheless, hot melt adhesives are neither waterproof nor heat-resistant. Alternative adhesives should be selected for outdoor or high-temperature environments.

What can be used if a hot melt glue gun is unavailable?

If you do not own a hot melt glue gun, are working with children, or require fully dried, invisible bonding results, standard craft PVA (white glue) is the common alternative that eliminates the need for a glue gun. It simply requires longer drying time plus mild pressure or clamping during curing. Hot melt adhesive remains the superior option if instant bonding and gap-filling are needed and you have access to a hot melt glue gun.

Can hot melt adhesive be used for corrugated cardboard packaging?

Absolutely; this is one of the most common industrial applications for hot melt adhesives. Both OGD-701 and OGD-31A are high-speed packaging adhesives suitable for carton sealing, carton forming and general bonding of paper, cardstock and cardboard. They enable fast, reliable sealing on production lines without clamping or waiting for curing.

Will hot melt adhesive damage or warp cardboard?

Proper application should cause no issues. OGD-31A can also operate as a low-melt adhesive to reduce risks of scorching thin or delicate cardboard. Visible warping or glue bleed-through on thin cardboard is typically caused by excessive adhesive dispensing or placing the nozzle too close to the substrate. A thin, uniform glue layer is recommended.
